200 CCTVs for Klang Valley

Good News! I'm sure that with this new 200 CCTV cameras going to install in the Klang Valley not only improve the social issues like haphazard parking and the illegal dumping of waste and also reduce the crime. Beside that it will provide the traffic information for monitoring purpose.

SHAH ALAM: In a bid to curb growing criminal activity in Selangor, 200 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed in several municipalities in the Klang Valley.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo said the cameras would be installed by early next year and locations would be picked based on the number of people frequenting the areas.

“We will work closely with the police to identify crime-prone areas and also to decide on the exact locations for the cameras,” he told reporters after chairing the weekly state executive council meeting here yesterday.

He said the state government would lease the cameras and other related equipment at a cost of RM3mil a year.

Dr Khir said the cameras could also be used to monitor other activities like haphazard parking and the illegal dumping of waste.

He said the feed from the CCTVs would be channelled to a monitoring station at the local council concerned and another at the nearest police station.

“We are not trying to monitor the public but just looking into ways to enable enforcement agencies to act faster when there is a problem,” he said.
