Govt to act soon on claims of cooking oil shortage

I found that 1kg-cooking oil packets price is much cheaper than other bottle packing. No woder people rush to buy it. Now palm oil FFB price between RM2200 to RM2500 per tonne. The cost for 1kg-cooking oil packet increase slowly but government already fix the selling price for it.

Cooking oil factory stop or slow the process of
1kg-cooking oil packet is reasonable since they claim that cost ir over the selling price. I welcome government can give subsidy after research is done but don't asking palm oil holder to "paid" the subsidy because the reason given is palm oil FFB is increasing.

Try to imagine that palm oil FFB pricing is fluctuate. Is that government also give subsidy palm oil holder especially small holder if the palm oil pricing drow. I still remember father told me that in 198x year (can't remember the actual year), the palm oil FFb price drop until RM60 per tonne. All palm oil holder suffering on it because cost to maintanance and collect the palm oil FFB is much higher than selling price (RM60).

KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry will make a decision soon on what needs to be done to overcome claims of cooking oil shortage in the country.

The ministry’s deputy secretary-general Datuk Mohamedsha Mislam said a meeting to discuss the matter was held on Thursday at Putrajaya, chaired by the secretary-general Mohd Zain Mohd Dom.

“The country is one of the biggest oil producers in the world, and therefore the ministry will have to conduct a detailed research on the matter before appropriate action can be taken,” he told reporters after launching the Third Malaysian International Branded Bedding Fair held at the Ikano Power Centre here on Thursday.

It had been reported recently that consumers were facing problems purchasing 1kg-cooking oil packets, especially in Penang and Kedah. Minister Datuk Shafie Apdal said on April 28 that there was no shortage of cooking oil, and that the commodity could be easily bought in hypermarkets, although it seemed to be difficult to purchase in small retail shops.
